Canada Parks Day, Show Jumping, and severe thunderstorm warnings filled up my weekend.

On Saturday, the Bar U Ranch celebrated Canada Parks Day with plenty of events throughout the day for lucky visitors to participate in.

The day was cloudy however, the weather was mostly nice and so the Bar U was able to have the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada set up their telescopes outside the visitors centre.

There, the public was able to learn how to safely use a telescope to witness solar events.

The telescopes were just one piece of the eventful day put together by the great staff of the Bar U Ranch.

Furthermore, the Millarville Musical Ride paraded through the historic ranch and Rob Lennard, “The History Wrangler” provided his audiences throughout the afternoon with stories of Alberta’s past and tunes worthy of foot stomping to.

The whole idea behind Canada Parks Days is to showcase national historic sites and parks across our nation.

With this, they try to emphasize the important aspect that national historic sites and parks across our great land play in the education of preserving and protecting diverse ecosystems in Canada.

So fittingly, the Bar U Ranch had Author Kevin Van Tighem on site to sign his latest book and give presentations on our watersheds and wildlife in the Foothills area.

All in all, the day was very educational and plenty of visitors attended from all over the world!

On Sunday, I had the opportunity to attend Rocky Mountain Show Jumping’s Midsummer Classic.

The venue was changed from their main riding facilities to the northern facilities due to rain.

However, all the riders and their horses seemed just as pleased to be there as on the regular field.

All morning different levels and ages of riders competed for flashy ribbons and monetary prizes.

Rocky Mountain Show Jumping provides a family friendly venue and I was witness to that as many families were in attendance.

It was a great day and a very lovely experience being able to watch all of the riders show off their skills.

The organizers of the event emphasized that this was only one of many competitions they host throughout the year.

With that, they would like to open the door to visitors to come watch for themselves.

Throughout August, there is plenty of competitions taking place and Rocky Mountain Show Jumping welcomes you to join in on the sidelines!

My day was unfortunately cut short as there was heavy rain and hail halfway through the Grand Prix.

However, this is a venue I am sure I will attend plenty more times this Summer!
