The Foothills School Division is celebrating 'le mois de la Francophonie' this month.

École Joe Clark School in High River has been one of the schools sharing their love for French culture and language in March.

All 330 students at the school have been participating all month long which also included a mini carnival with games, singing, dancing, making music with traditional French spoons and the making of maple taffy.  There was also a special appearance of Bonhomme in celebration of the Bonhomme Carnaval.

Students also made Métis sash this month along with decorating their classroom doors with artwork to recognize a Francophone community or country.

The students and teachers plan to wrap up the month-long celebrations with a discothèque school dance on Thursday, March 28, just before Spring Break kicks in.

Students will be off for Spring Break next week, returning to class on Monday, April 8.

École Percy Pegler School in Okotoks also participated and both schools offer French Immersion starting in kindergarten and they are currently accepting applications for the next school year.

Other schools within the district that offer French Immersion include École Senator Riley Middle School, École Secondaire Highwood High School, École Okotoks Junior High School and École Secondaire Foothills Composite High School/Alberta High School of Fine Arts.
