Turner Valley to Crossfield! Fort Macleod to Airdrie!

When the first trailer for Ghostbusters: Afterlife came out in December of 2019 Albertans saw a whole lot of familiar sights like Fort Macleod's Empress Theatre and Drumheller's water tower as well as a massive pile of Timbits!

It’s hard to believe that two long years have passed since Aykroyd and Murray’s Ecto-1 tore through some of Southern Alberta's quietest towns and in that time, so much has changed. COVID came and went, then came back again with a vengeance, the seasons changed and with it, the film’s original release date changed... then changed again.

Filming largely took place in 2019 and an incredible 37 years after the original Ghostbusters and 32 years after the sequel, it’s FINALLY time for the third narrative installment, Ghostbusters: Afterlife.

A pre-screening was held at the Fort Macleod's Empress Theatre on November 13th with fans arriving from across Canada including some visitors from the United States. The events also doubled as a fundraiser for the over 100-year-old theatre.

Afterlife is hitting select theatres across Canada today (Nov. 17) with the wide release set for Friday, November 19th.

Reprising their roles in Sony’s highly anticipated film, are Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver and Annie Potts, with the late Harold Ramis appearing via archival footage. Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace and Paul Rudd are the fresh cast members who drive the current story.

Ice Blue was shot in the downtown core of Okotoks, Heartland in High River. You can see the foothills in Fargo, Brokeback Mountian, Superman, Jumanji 2, and a surprising amount of Santa Claus Movies. Alberta also makes appearances in The Bourne Legacy, Haunting Melissa, Klondike, Diablo, The Revenant, Tin Star, How it Ends, Hold the Dark, Hard Powder & Togo, Game of Thrones and the upcoming HBO series The Last of Us.

Alberta's screen-based production industry directly employs approximately 3,000 Albertans, with many more being impacted by production-induced spendings such as hotels, caterers and lumber companies and in the last 15 years, Alberta has had more Oscar, Emmy and Golden Globe wins than any other region in Canada!
