Zombies will be returning to the Foothills.

After stopping in several other Alberta locales over the last six months, HBO will bring their production of the TV show The Last of Us to town near the end of January.

A filming notice/road closure notification distributed to residents in the neighbourhood of Suntree that has been shared on social media details the work that will be done between Jan. 31 and Feb. 15.

Filming will take place between Robinson Dr. and 29 Suntree Lane as well as Suntree Park, with the production having rented a house to film in.

Part of the preparation will include dressing the area with plant life and snow.

The area will be prepped from Jan. 31 to Feb. 6, with filming taking place from Feb. 7 to Feb. 12.

Crews will clean the area from Feb. 13 to Feb. 15.

The Last of Us is based on a 2013 video game surrounding a man and a young girl trying to survive in a post-apocalyptic world besieged by zombies infected by a mutated fungus.

It will star Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey as protagonists Joel and Ellie.

The production has previously filmed in other areas of the province including High River, Fort Macleod, and Canmore.
