The ninth annual Together We Make a Difference Radiothon took place Thursday, June 23 with the goal to fund several Foothills health and wellness projects.

The Sheep River Health Trust (SRHT) took over the parking lot at The Eagle 100.9 radio station once again battling wind, rain, hail and eventually sun.

At the end of the day, a total of $60,134.35 was collected, just shy of the $67,374 raised last year.

SRHT executive director Andrea Mitchell was pleased with how things unfolded for year number nine.

"We look at that impact in our community for those projects, it means they can actually deliver those projects instead of being out in the community looking for funders. It makes such an impact for our residents and we're very thankful for that."

They also included several third-party donation locations with funds flooding in from Quesada, Sector 6, Big Beaver Brewing Co., Trident Autowash as well as Rona in Black Diamond. 

Despite economic hardships, Mitchell is grateful for the support garnered from the community this year.

"It is so nice to see them every year. We go out and ask and sometimes it's hard. COVID has not made it easy for a lot of businesses and individuals, but we see when we all come together with our 20 dollars in our pockets, we can make it happen. And for our organizations, our Foothills community, it makes an impact."

Six projects will receive the funds from this year's efforts.

"We have two projects over at the Okotoks Family Resource Center. Then we have Foothills Family Medical Center. We have two Holter monitors happening there. Foothills community counselling, and one of our favourites It Takes a Village for the baby sleeps safe program."
