It's every drivers nightmare when the vehicle you're driving dies completely just as you're crossing a busy intersection.

That nightmare was a reality for Owner of Jungle Out There Pet Services Cassandra Kirkpatrick on Monday, April 22 when her company van's battery died at the intersection of Highways 543 and 2A, near the rodeo grounds.

Kirkpatrick had two animals that belonged to her clients in the back of the van, and was worried about being in a dangerous situation.  She says nearly 20 - 25 vehicles made their way past, honking or angrily waving.

"I had people piling up behind me and they were waiting as I was kind of causing a traffic jam I guess. It was definitely pretty stressful and I was panicking a bit." Kirkpatrick adds "Some people were definitely not very happy with me, because I had no  power so I didn't have hazard lights or anything, I was just a sitting duck out there. People were definitely pretty frustrated with me and they didn't really understand what had happened!!"

Just in the nick of time a big old truck pulled  up behind the broken down van and Kirkpatrick says the driver's name was Patrick.

"He was a total stranger who I'd never met before pulled up with his truck, and he was like "Hi! I'm going to help you out, he pulled out his tow ropes and hooked up my van and actually drove me to Auto Craft."

She says the stranger named Patrick saved the day.

"He totally, totally saved the day. I was so grateful for him. He was such a kind, nice guy who wouldn't accept any type of payment but I finally convinced him to take a couple dozen eggs from my flock of chickens" Kirkpatrick adds that actions like these are what makes for a great community. "People like Patrick is just what High River is all about honestly, I mean it was such a kind gesture but you see people all over High River that do things like that and it's honestly people like Patrick are why I'm so proud to be a part of our community - so thank you Patrick."

The Community spirit didn't end there as her mechanic also came to the rescue of many four legged community members relying on the van for the next day.

"My mechanic gave me his personal vehicle because he didn't want my clients dogs to be without their pack walk on Tuesday while he fixed my van. They're so many amazing people that were part of the story, but Patrick was a total stranger which makes it so much better."

The dogs and Kirkpatrick say they want to send a special thank you to everyone that helped them out during that special time, and especially for Patrick.
