Recent cold weather and poor driving conditions have left an unsightly, and often unsafe, number of abandoned vehicles on Foothills highways. High River RCMP Sargeant Larry Marzinzik says police often have to deal with other issues arising from vehicles left on the side of the road. He says theives often smash windows to steal whatever is left inside the vehicle, so the it could be damaged if its left too long or overnight in a remote area. Marzinzik adds if there is a complaint about the vehicle, police can tow it if it's been left longer than 72 hours -- meaning extra costs to the owner.
