Albertans will soon be able to book vaccination appointments for children under five.

On August 2, appointments will be made available for booking, with vaccine administration starting that same day.

Health minister Jason Copping was quoted in a release from the Government of Alberta.

"We are pleased to now offer a vaccine for families with children under the age of five. Parents are in the best position to decide whether the vaccination is right for their children, and we are providing them with the information they need to help them make that choice."

First doses must be booked through AHS, and are all administered at AHS clinics rather than pharmacies.

The Moderna vaccine was approved for use for children aged six months to five years on July 14.
