With icy conditions expected to continue this week RCMP are reminding motorists to drive with caution with these tips:

Plan ahead. Check weather and road conditions before heading out and adjust your expected arrival time accordingly so that you have lots of time to arrive safety at your destination.

Slow down. Roads are unpredictable when they're slippery so it's best to drive at a slower speed than you would normally. Accelerate and stop gradually to maintain traction and avoid spinning your wheels.

Keep your distance. It takes longer to stop on a slippery road. Look ahead and keep plenty of distance between you and other vehicles.

Be prepared. Consider investing in winter tires and assemble a winter emergency kit with items to keep you warm and hydrated if you become stranded on the road. For more information on what to have in your vehicle, visit the Canadian Red Cross website.

Stay calm and focused. Remaining calm and focused will allow you to respond better to unexpected challenges on wintery roads. Remember, other drivers are dealing with the same challenges.
