High River drivers could be excused for having flashbacks to last year's Centre Street bridge closure.

Crews have discovered an underground water leak at the intersection of Centre Street and Macleod Trail at the south end of the bridge.

Pure Technologies was doing a routine inspection in June.

A statement from the town says if the pipe isn't replaced soon a water main break could impact water transmission to parts of downtown and residential properties nearby.

The Centre Street bridge will be down to one lane at times but won't be fully shut down during the work.

Work is expected to start in early to mid-August as soon as a contractor is hired.

Supply chain issues mean final paving may not be done until next year.
