Okotoks' shiny new welcome signs haven't been shining as they should.

Commuters are likely to have noticed the three welcome signs haven't been visible in the dark as of late.

They're supposed to be automatically illuminated at night, with power from their solar panels.

Councillor Gord Lang took notice and submitted an inquiry.

According to the response from Community Growth, Investment, and Sustainability Director Jeff Greene, the town contacted the sign company, who found the batteries have insufficient capacity to power them over the winter months.

The company is contractually obligated to solve the issue “at the Design Builder's expense, any work which is not in accordance with the Contract Documents or defects or deficiencies in the Work which appear at any time until the end of the warranty periods specified in the Contract Documents.”

They responded to the town, giving a six-week estimate to get the signs in working order.
