There are big plans for the old mini-putt course by the skateboard park in High River.

Sarah Bruinsma with the Youth Park Task Force says people will notice the differences.

"We've taken out all but three of the mini-putt holes with the hope of having barbeque pits and picnic tables on those last three remaining holes. And we're going to do some nice landscaping, so it'll be a park-like atmosphere," she says.

"To the left of where the mini-putt is, there's going to be a sports court with four basketball nets, a large area for youth to play various games. There's going to be a wi-fi bench. We've painted the picnic tables. We're hoping to add some lighting to the area, and there will be a Pride sidewalk between Highwood High School and the park."

Contracts have already gone out for the landscaping and the sports court.

With the skate park nearby, the task force, which included youth in the town, wanted to make the area a priority.

A donation of $200,000 from Brian Perry through the United Way/High River Partnership helped make it possible.

Bruinsma says it's going to be a great addition to the town.

"It's nice that we can focus on youth and give them their own space where they can hang out and make it their own," she says.

The park should be ready to open in the fall.
