Last year 143 workers died on the job.
And almost all of the deaths were preventable.
Chris Chodan from Alberta Human Resources and Employment explains why so many people get hurt.
"Most common problems I would think is people not assesing hazzards is what it boils down to. If you look at almost every investigation that our officers do into a fatality or serious injury there is always several things that weren't done or were done that shouldn't have been and in retrospect or hind sight / 20-20 it's always really obvious and in fact would be most of the time if everyone involved would have sat down to look at it ahead of time."
70 people died last year from occupational health issues such as being exposed to esbestos or other carcenegenic materials decades ago.
