It's going to be a stressful day Thursday, March 22 for chuckwagon drivers as they go on the block in the annual Calgary Stampede Canvas Auction.

High River's Jordie Fike, who got a bit of a bump at the 2017 auction says he's been busy out talking to sponsors.

"You keep pounding the pavement and doing your own PR and hope that it works out for you. That's all you can in a situation like this is do your own homework and whatever will be, will be.

Fike says the sense he's getting is things are getting better out there, which could translate to a healthier bottom line for he and his fellow drivers.

The auction goes Thursday at 5 o'clock at the Archie Boyce Theatre at Stampede Park in Calgary.
