The Calgary Flames introduced their newest acquisitions, goaltender Mike Smith and defenceman Travis Hamonic to the media Monday, June 26, at the Saddledome.

Recently acquired by the Flames, GM Brad Treliving says it signals the Flames aren't just looking to make the playoffs anymore, but make a serious run for the Stanley Cup.

"We don't do these things to make statements. We do it to make our team better. We're going to continue to grind away at it to see if we can't find more ways to help us. But, we're better than we were before we made the moves, so we're excited about it.

Both Smith and Hamonic say they're excited to be in Calgary and get the season started.

Hamonic was acquired in a draft day deal with the New York Islanders, where he's played the last seven seasons.

Smith comes to the Flames from the Arizona Coyotes where he's toiled the last six seasons, with stops in Dallas and Tampa Bay before that.

In the meantime, the Flames made qualifying offers Monday to these nine players:

Micheal Ferland (RW)
Jon Gillies (G)
Garnet Hathaway (RW)
Brett Kulak (D)

David Rittich (G)

While three more will become unrestricted free agents after not receiving qualifying offers:
