The High River Flyers are ready to hit the ice with their first two exhibition games this weekend.

Head Coach Colton Hayes says the says the team is looking good this year with a couple of key players coming back and a few new ones coming on board.

"We are looking really strong this year," said Hayes. "We signed Slater Strong and he played junior a for three years and we are very excited to see him play."

He adds the regular season starts next week and there are still a couple of spots open.

"Kids keep calling and there are still a lot of spots still left open up front and we are just trying to build a great hockey team and move forward from here."

Last year Davis Sheldon made big contributions to the team and this year he is off to play on a university team.

"Sheldon was a great player for them last year. I know from personal experience, I was the Okotoks Bison's Assistant Coach at the end of the season and I watched him play. It is a hard void to fill but hopefully a couple of the guys I have coming in, they can kind of earn their own spotlight. We have a good young core group and a couple of older guys to help out the younger guys so I think we will be okay."

The flyers have two exhibition games this weekend first up they head north to Okotoks to take on the Bisons on Friday night at 7 p.m. and they are home Saturday night as they host Strathmore at 7p.m.
