Good showings for local golfers at the PGA of Alberta Pro Tour event Thursday, August 3, at the Highwood Golf and Country Club.

Calgary's Wes Heffernan picked up the win and the $850 paycheque, with a three-under 68.

The former Canadian Tour player says he's no stranger to High River.

"This is where I grew up playing actually. My Grandparents were members here. So, from when I was seven to 12 years old or so, this where they'd take me to play."

Calgary's Wes Heffernan says he's quite familiar with the Highwood Golf Club having played there a lot when he was younger. He's says it's changed a lot, but is still very famiiar in many ways.

High River's Dan McIntosh, finished sixth with an even par 71.

He says it's a little different than playing on the long drive circuit.

"A little different atmosphere here. I mean, you actually have to chip and putt. You only get one shot, not eight. You've got to try to control it a bit, find your targets, hitting it straight and still having some fun!"

Sirocco's Craig Gibson finished fifth, a day after winning the Alberta Assistants title at Cottonwood.
