It was a disappointing night for the Holy Trinity Academy Football club as the Knights fell 22-7 to the Lloydminister Barons out at the Tier II Provincial championship game in Fort McMurray on November 24.

Consistent snowfall and slippery field conditions marred both teams offensive plays, however the Knights were able to hike in a touchdown in the second quarter, taking the lead 7-1, before half time.

Knights Coach, Matt Hassett says, while the Knights controlled the first half of the game, attrition was a problem in the latter half.

"In the second half I thought we didn't have as many first downs and our defenses were out a lot longer. We just got kinda worn down, they started to be able to run the ball on us and no team has been able to run the ball on our front seven all year. It was just one of those things where our defense got tired in the fourth quarter and they started running the ball."

The Barons utilized an interception late in the third quarter and ran the ball to victory, seizing the title from the Knights.

Hassett says despite the loss, he has faith in his returning squad and can't wait for another shot at the title in the following season.

"We got a great core of guys coming back, most of our team is coming back next year. Maybe we have to take a page from Lloyd's book, they lost last year in the finals and came back and won this year. So maybe it'll make our returning guys a little more hungry for next season."
