Big night for local chuckwagon drivers as they're in Calgary for the annual Stampede Tarp Auction.

However it's not all "bright lights, big city" as most of the drivers are taking advantage of the warm weather to start their spring training.

High River's Jason Glass says he spent the off-season looking for more horse power.

"So, I got a bunch of new ones. I'll mix 'em in with the old ones and try to get them ready for the race season."

High River's Jordie Fike says he's added some horses to his stable this year he thinks can help.

"I like to rotate a few new ones in every year, regardless of the success I had the year before. So, I've got six new ones, nice, big bodied horses. I was kind of looking for a little more wheel power this year. So, that's what I went looking for was probably some horses that would fit in those positions."

The drivers hit the track for the first time this season at the end of May up in Grande Prairie at the Stompede.
