Amanda Schmidt is not your typical rodeo star.

She's from the city, and didn't start riding and roping until just a few years ago, but at 24 years old, the High River area athlete is looking to make her mark in the world of team roping.

She says she's been doing alright on the jackpot circuit here in the Foothills, but is looking to move into more summer rodeo's after some success in Stavely this past Summer.

"It's a very different mental game than jackpot's are, and I really struggled with it at first. But, the last rodeo of the season I went to which was Stavely, I ended up winning it, so it was nice to overcome that mental block."

She says her goal is to compete in team roping on the pro rodeo circuit.
