The Highwood Mustangs girls basketball squad are in Cochrane for the next three days as they look for a spot at Provincials in the zone playoffs.

Coach Ryan Hayden says thanks to winning their league title last weekend, they come into zones in a position of strength.

"We're the number one seed going in. The top five are all highly competitive with each other and everybody's kind of taken turns beating up on each other. So, the number one seed is awesome, but there's at least five teams that can win this thing."

Hayden says it never hurts to be number one.

"Match-up wise, the four and the five teams, which are Cochrane and Strathmore, are probably better match-up's for us that Bow Valley and Brooks who are the two and three seeds. I mean, our path to the final is challenging, but could probably be worse."

He says they play the winner of a "play in" game between Springbank and George McDougall out of Airdrie in their opener Thursday, March 7.
