The PeeWee league Okotoks Eagles football team started off their season with a promising victory over the Calgary Stampeders in the CPFA (Calgary PeeWee Football Association) on Tuesday August 28, beating them 20-0.

Head coach for the Eagles Lance Kelly says Thursdays game was solidly played.

"It was a great game for us defensively, the kids were exceptional all around."

The PeeWee league is comprised of 11-12 year olds, and the eight game season is comprised of 12 teams, where the top eight participate in a playoff series.

The winning team of the playoffs will move on to play in a provincial championship with winning teams across Alberta.

Kelly says PeeWee is the first time the kids experience "real football".

"It's the first we play what I would call real football, PeeWee is the first time the kids will step on the field in presence of a referee, and they will get called on procedural penalties. The league utilizes full football rules."

Kelly says although he's new to teaching this division, he's excited for his team, and sees great potential for them to be a serious presence in the CPFA.

"I'm a first year PeeWee coach, I'm used to coaching older kids, but we got some real good kids and although for many of them it's their first year in PeeWee, I think we are going to have a really good year, I'm really excited."
