Two seventh grade Foothills Eagles players are heading south this weekend to represent Alberta in the annual All Star football game between Alberta and BC.

Isaac Holunga and Westley Johnsen will take part in the Young Stars Division of the ABC Bowl held at the University of Lethbridge on May 27th.

Tammy Holunga, Isaac's mother, says the boys have been working towards the ABC Bowl since February.

"Their Eagle's coach from last season suggested they attend the tryouts in Calgary this past February," she said. "Which consisted of strength and agility testing and a week later they both received invites to represent Alberta."

"They were then sent a copy of the playbook and asked to prepare themselves for the insertion camp which was held three weeks ago in Lacombe, where they showcased their talent allowing coaches to place them into specific positions."

Isaac will be wearing number 14 and playing both running back and slot back at the ABC Bowl, he has been playing football for the Eagles since he was seven.

He was honored with the offensive MVP award for his performance last fall and is moving from peewee to bantam this coming season.

Johnsen is wearing number 15 and will play in positions of offensive lineman, defensive end and full back at the competition, he's played football since he was nine years old where he played for the Sooke Seahawks in Vancouver and has played the last 3 seasons with the Eagles.

Through his years of playing he has received the running back of the year award as well as player of the game. He will also be moving up from peewee to bantam this coming fall.

Tammy said the ABC bowl is organized by Ron Dias, a well known football recruiter, a recognized name by NCAA coaches in the U.S. and has sent more than 500 players to the U.S. on athletic scholarships.

"To be chosen to play in these bowl games gives the boys early exposure to recruiters who will track the progress of their players throughout their careers. Once in high school, their all star recruiting report is shared with universities and colleges across Canada and the U.S. where players will have already been identified as prospects to watch and recruit."

She adds Isaac and Johnsen are excited, honoured, and also a little nervous to represent Alberta in their division.

The game will be played Saturday May 27 at 9 a.m. at the Community Stadium, and will be streamed live online at golivesportcast.com.
