Wrestling is trying to make a comeback in the Foothills, with the sport getting a boost from coaches at Senator Riley Junior High.

Principal Tracy McKinnon says, it's been something that's been missing for far too long.

"High River hasn't had a strong wrestling program in a few years. Which is an absolute shame, as legendary coach Bill Young has something like 27 Provincial wrestling banners hanging in the gym at Highwood High School."

McKinnon says so far the program's been a hit.

"We have over 20 wrestlers coming out regularly to practice, and most of those kids are in grade six. And of course with Josh (Skory), also doing his Saturday clinics at the Cargill Field House, from 9:30 to 11, we are hopeful that High River wrestling it's on it's way back to making a strong comeback."

McKinnon says they have a mix of about 20 boys and girls coming out so far, with practices running Monday's and Wednesday from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at the Senator Riley Gym.
