The local group 100 Women Who Care, Foothills is about to celebrate a milestone.

Karen Love says they're coming up on the end of their first year.

"I can't believe that the year has went so quickly, and November is our first anniversary and we're really  excited," she says.

Love says they started off with 32 women and the last cheque they handed out was for $4,200 to Food For Thought, which provides meals for children in local schools..

Love says the group got started when she was working for a non-profit in Calgary that received money from a similar organization in the city and when she moved to Okotoks, she thought it could work there as well and has since expanded to take in donors and charities throughout the region.

She says the women gather and put forward charities they think deserve to be helped and three are chosen. The women who put forward those charities make their case and a vote is taken with one charity receiving $100 cheques from all of the women in the group. But Love says it doesn't end there.

"Whoever's the successful recipient, they come back to our following meeting and tell us exactly what they did with the money, so when I give my $100 over I know exactly where it's going," Love says.

They'll be getting together Thursday Nov. 3, at the Crystal Ridge Golf Club at 7 o'clock.
