A five year old High River boy is $20,000 closer to making his life a little bit easier.

Kazmeir Kielczewski has a rare condition called Agenesis of the Corpus Callosum or ACC, which is a brain deformation that prohibits communication from the left and right hemispheres of the brain.

Owner and Manager of High River No Frills, Stephen Charland presented the cheque to the family in his store Friday afternoon.

"President's Choice Children's Charities selected them to receive a grant for $20,000 to put towards making his travels a little easier. Kazmeir's in a wheelchair, and the money is going to go towards converting or purchasing a wheelchair accessible minivan."

A bake sale and BBQ along with donations of products and services from local businesses were also raffled off, and brought in an additional $786 after the cheque presentation.

Kazmeirs grandmother Suzanne Strom says they have a long way to go yet but is confident they'll make it.

"We're going to try and augment the donation of $20,000 through some more fundraising, as a van runs anywhere from $40-$60,000."

She says they're working with companies that specialize in wheelchair accessible vans, and hopes to be able to find one locally.

Kazmeir's Mom Vicki Hanlon says they have more fundraisers planned.

"We're looking to do another fundraiser coming up at Sobeys, and we're working on dates for that right now. On August 28 we're having a fundraiser at Joey's Only.

To make a donation the family has set up an account at the Bank of Montreal and they will be accepting donations under "Kaz's Kar" Account #0634 8982 380.
