The streets of High River will be festooned with banners again starting Wednesday Aug. 24.

The Library's Program Coordinator, Joyce Brown says local artists will be featured on the banners.

"The call went out for any artists to submit a picture of their art which was juried and judged and then they were made into banners that will hang on the light standards and this set is going to hang on 1 Street Southwest and 12 Avenue," she says.

Brown says the judges could not have a piece in the running for a banner spot just to keep everything fair.

She says they had 80 submissions from children to seniors and all types of media from beading and weaving to sculpture and painting.

"They will be sold, the artists will get the first choice if they want to buy their piece and after that, if they say 'nope, they can be auctioned' we'll auction them off, Brown says.

"The base price is $150 and that is our seed fund to do it again next year, and next year we're really hoping that the Town has figured out how to hang banners in the downtown core."

She says it's a bit of a wind tunnel through downtown and the banners can get severely damaged.

The big unveiling goes Wednesday Aug. 24 at the Library from 6 to 8 p.m.
