The Canadian Finals Rodeo that has been hosted in Edmonton for 44 years, has a new home in Red Deer.

The rodeo which is scheduled from October 30 to November 4, will now be hosted in Red Deer's Enmax Centrium Arena, after the original venue's location was closed down.

Alberta Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Oneil Carlier says, this change in location, is big news for the event.

"The Canadian Finals Rodeo, is a premier sporting event for the province and country, and now that it's in Red Deer, I think its going to continue to draw a lot of new people and fans. The Canadian Rodeo association was looking at a few options for the change in location, and I'm happy they decided to remain in Alberta."

In addition to the change in venue, the Alberta government is pitching in $250,000 through the Major Fairs Program, to assure this year's rodeo is a good one.

Carlier says, the funding will go towards accommodating the expected 75,000 rodeo fans the event organizers are expecting.

"It helps with the event and organization to host the event, and our Western culture is part of who we are, but the funding helps with tourism as well."

The prestigious opportunity to compete in the CFR, is awarded to those who are in the top 12 in their discipline.
