A change in command for the local Foothills Air Cadet Squadron Tuesday, December 13 at the High River Airport.
Okotoks Sydney Monteith is the new Squadron Commander, being promoted to Warrant Officer First Class.
She says it comes with more work.
Which mean's I'm now in charge of the squadron, which is now a large group of people as we do have 80 cadets. So, what I will be doing is helping with the scheduling of events and making sure classes are in order and everyone knows what they're doing."
Despite her move up the chain of command, Monteith says she has no desire for a career in the military.
She says she'll instead apply what she's learned about leadership and administration and use that in a career in business.
Commanding Officer, Captain Reid Habing says he can't imagine anyone better for the job.
"She's an outstanding leader. She has the pulse of the cadets at heart. And she has some very strong management skills. She was highly recommended by the Merit Review Board, because she's the best person for the job."
Habing was also honoured at the ceremony with a long service medal.
There were a number of other promotions with several members of the squadron being promoted to Warrant Officer Second Class and Flight Sergeant.
