High River Town Council approved grant funding for a dozen community groups at their meeting Monday, February 11.

The 2019 Family and Community Support Services Community Grant allocations total $60,000 which will be divvied out to the High River groups.

Community Support Services Manager, Shelley Koot, says each year they ask for organizations to submit applications for funding which goes towards preventative social services.

"A lot of people don't know that we have a number of local agencies and resources right here in High River. A lot of them provide support throughout the Foothills area, but they call High River home."

Koot says they had 14 applications this year, 12 of which were approved.

The grant allocations are as follows;

$7,000 for Boys and Girls Club
$5,000 for Christ the Redeemer School Division (Connections Program)
$5,500 for Foothills Fetal Alcohol Society
$5,000 for Foothills Victims Services
$5,000 for Foothills Country Hospice
$4,500 for Foothills Community Immigrant Services
$6,000 for Foothills School Division (Family School Liaison Worker)
$5,500 for Foothills Special Needs Association for Parents and Siblings (SNAPS)
$1,000 for Junior Achievement
$5,500 for Literacy for Life Foundation
$5,000 for Rowan House: Branches Program
