The Clifford and Louise Lougheed Award is usually handed out each October at the High River and District Health Care Foundation Gala.

But after opening up the brand new Cancer Care Centre expansion Thursday the the Rotary Club of High River was named the winner.

Foundation Executive Director Michael Brown says they've kept it surprise for awhile.

"We make that decision at our June meeting every year as to who's going to be the recipient, and it was a no brainer, there was absolutely no discussion, it was unanimous and a very easy decision," Brown says.

Rotary President Mary Ann Kyllo says she was honoured to accept the award on behalf of all the Rotarians who had done so much over the last three years to make the expansion a reality.

"We've held golf tournaments, the things we do every year, because not only has Rotary funded this but we've continued to support our community in all the things that we usually do," she says.

Michael Brown says the club jumped on board right from the beginning and did everything the said they would.
