An American agriculture company has chosen High River for the base of its Canadian operations.

The company is called Farmer's Business Network, and is a website where farmers can share data anonymously, and buy inputs online that will be directly delivered to their farm.

High River's Manager of Economic Development, Jodi Dawson, says the town's planned fibre optics network played a key role in getting them to High River.

"When we were pursuing that project with the intention of ensuring high speed at competitive rates for the business community, I had in the back of my mind business exactly like Farmer's Business Network."

Dawson says, High River is the perfect fit for their business.

"We're right in the centre of farming and ranch country, so everything agriculture is here, and we're a 40 minute drive to the airport."

She says, they're looking at places downtown for their office.

"We are a people first community, Farmer's Business Network is a farmers first organization. It's a perfect match. If you need high-speed internet, and access to an urban centre, but you want a lifestyle like High River offers, we're the place."

Dawson says, this is the kind of business opportunity that belong in High River, and the town hopes to attract other businesses in the agriculture, health, and creative professional technology industries.

She says, Farmer's Business Network will be in town by May.
