Alberta Environment Minister, Shannon Phillips, made a visit to the Livingstone-Macleod riding on Sunday, February 24.

Phillips was in Nanton to support NDP candidate Cam Gardner at his nomination meeting.

She says it was a packed cafe full of local people, farmers and ranchers.

"I'm always struck when I interact with ranchers like Cam, just how deeply they care about the land, the environment and how deeply they understand climate change is real and they want to do something about it."

Phillips is glad Gardner will represent the NDP party in the riding after asking him several times to run in this election.

She says climate change could be one of the big election issues to watch.

"They (people) care as much about the air, land and water as they do about their public health care system, about their public education system and about services for people in rural areas."

Phillips says it's an honour to have Gardner on the team.
