One charity cosplay group is getting very excited as plans start to unfold for a big Ghostbusters Afterlife Special Screening in Fort Macleod this July.

The Alberta Ghostbusters are a not for profit group that dresses up and drives Ecto-1 to multiple events throughout the province, raising money for charities like the Alberta Children's Hospital.

Recently the Alberta Ghostbusters were helping out cast and crew of the new Ghostbusters movie which was filmed throughout Turner Valley, Drumheller and Fort Macleod.

Alberta Ghostbusters Major Event Planner Dustin Milne says for a group of passionate Ghostbusters fans, being part of the new film was a once in a lifetime opportunity.

"Everyone is just super excited that we're even getting a movie that's part of the original timeline and universe. It's 35 years later but hey! Good things come to those wait! It's definitely exciting." Milne says "When we found out it was being filmed in Calgary and southern Alberta it seemed a little too good to be true, I still don't believe that I got do some of the things that I got to do."

Milne says the group had to sign Non Disclosure Agreements and can't talk too much about the part they played in the film in an effort to avoid spoilers.

Now that there's a special screening in the works, Milne says he and the rest of the group are eager to get on board.

"We've already talked to guys at Keep Alberta Rolling about being involved in it, and we're all just kind of waiting on some final approvals and plans but we're really hoping to be involved in it!"

Milne says seeing the movie is priority number one, but if they could be involved in a bigger role, they would jump at the chance.

"If we can even just put on our flight suits and put some smiles on some faces too, that's kinda what it's all about."

The Alberta Ghostbusters are hoping the new film will re-ignite the Ghostbusters fandom once more.

"I think it's definitely going to reignite the fandom, and I think what's really cool is in our group we have members who are die-hard lifelong Ghostbusters fans and then now, some of the significant others or those who aren't huge Ghostbusters fans have joined just because they love the charity aspect of it but it does grow on them."

With the new addition to the Ghostbusters franchise, Milne says the group is going to be busier than ever.

"It's definitely going to be a busy year, we've already got phone calls for a few special events and anything Ghostbusters related. We're a staple at the Expo, so we'll be there in both Calgary and Edmonton. We're attending a special screening of the original Ghostbusters in Banff at the end of march on top of Sulfur mountain, and we'll be in the Calgary Stampede Parade."

Both the Town of Fort Macleod and The Alberta Ghostbusters say they'll keep fans posted as more plans get unveiled for the special screening of Ghostbusters Afterlife.
