Solar energy has grown nearly five times since 2015, and the Alberta government is seeking to nurture it even further.

In an effort to promote solar power initiatives, the Alberta government will be contributing 7.5 million dollars to help Alberta municipalities develop solar projects and initiatives.

Additionally, Energy Efficiency Alberta is increasing their solar rebate levels by 15% for residences and 25% for non-profits.

The Town of Okotoks is no stranger to solar power, with the Drake Landing Solar Community being the first of its kind in North America.

Other energy conservation efforts in Okotoks include the My Heat project, the EV Charging stations in town, and the Environmental Master Plan recently approved by town council.

It remains to be seen whether Okotoks will be receiving a portion of the funding, though green energy and environmental conservation will surely remain a priority regardless.
