Heading northbound on Highway 2 between Aldersyde and Okotoks you might just spot an updated Alberta Independence Party sign.

Friday, March 22 a few candidates for the party gathered to modernize their outdated trailer advertisement.

Candidate for the Livingstone-Macleod riding Vern Sparkes says people need to know that they don't have to vote for the same old parties.

"The only way we can make Alberta prosperous again is through separation. The NDP is gonna sink our ship, the UCP same thing, they're going to drive us more in debt. The only way we can get out of debt is to get our province, turn it into a country, get it out of Canada, and we will be debt free in five years."

Sparkes says the debt the province has accumulated is simply unacceptable.

"Their grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren will never pay off this debt. It's crazy."

Sparkes says the new sign is only going to be up for the election, and after the election has passed another new sign
will go up in its place.

"And when it comes back down, it's going to get repainted, it's going to say More Alberta No Ottawa."

Sparkes says the trailer sign has been an historical landmark in the area for the last 16 years.

Also attending the event was C.W. Alexander, candidate for the Calgary-Klein riding, and land owner and candidate for the Chestermere-Strathmore riding, Roger Dean Walker.

Walker says the party can't get much more grassroots than this, referring to the three of them putting up the new sign themselves.

C.W. Alexander says under the parties leadership people from all walks of life will be welcomed.

"Everybody's equal under the law, and having respect for others no matter what, whether it's for religion, sexuality, whatever might exist, we respect everybody's rights in that regard."
