Thanks to a new alert network system, residents living in or around the Foothills region can now receive emergency alerts for eight municipalities.

Those include:

- M.D. of Foothills
- Town of Black Diamond
- Town of Turner Valley
- Town of Okotoks
- Town of High River
- Village of Longview
- Vulcan County
- Town of Vulcan

Director of emergency management with the M.D. of Foothills, Clayton Terletski, says the Safe Communities Alert Network (SCAN), which is an extension of the Foothills Regional Emergency Services Commission (FRESC), will notify you when an emergency event is taking place in the Foothills.

"The benefit is that not only can you sign up for the M.D. of Foothills, but you can sign up for the other municipalities if you wish," he says. "So if you're curious what alerts High River or Okotoks might be giving, or if you have family in other areas, you can sign up for those alerts as well."

Director of emergency management with the Town of High River, Carly Benson, said in a press release there are also many new benefits to this system.

"People (might) live in High River, but work in Black Diamond, and send their kids to summer camp in Okotoks," she says. "Now they have the ability to receive alerts from all of those places with their one High River Alert account."

If you're already signed up for the ALERT system with the Town of High River or M.D. of Foothills, you'll get a notification on July 15 with a link to update your account so you can subscribe to other municipal alerts.
