Polls showing the newly formed, and leaderless United Conservative Party would form government if an election were held today don't hold a lot of water for one local MLA.

Wayne Anderson says that's great to hear, but there's still almost two years before the next election.

"You know we're a long way away from the election. Knowing the NDP, they've had a little taste of power and we've seen how they've managed that power. I don't have a lot of happy constituents, with the carbon tax issue and Bill 6. They've got power right now and are going to try and hang onto it. Never underestimate the NDP. Never underestimate the power of the unions."

Anderson says he'll take a wait and see attitude until a new Party Leader is chosen in October.
