Highwood MLA Wayne Anderson is remembering Brian Jean as a friend.

Jean resigned from politics Monday, March 5.

Anderson says Jean came in to lead at a tough time for the former Wildrose Party.

"He stepped up at the right time to lead us. And then lead us into one of the strongest oppositions any government's had in the last several decades. You know we won 21 seats and made it 22 in a by-election. He moved us forward at the time. So he made some history with the Conservative movement in Alberta."

Jean lost the leadership of the new United Conservative Party to Jason Kenney last Fall.

Jean had a rough go personally over his time as leader, including losing his son in the middle of the 2015 Provincial Election and then losing his home during the fires in Fort McMurray.

The Spring sitting of the Alberta Legislature starts Monday, March 12 in Edmonton.
