With the province forecasting a $10.3 billion deficit during Thursday's budget announcement, the opposition Wildrose are having their say on NDP spending.

Highwood MLA Wayne Anderson says it was frustrating to see the announcement from Finance Minister Joe Ceci.

"This is getting out of control, I mean this is a debt fuelled disaster," he says. "We're looking at almost $71-72 billion by the time this government is gone by 2019-2020. It's unrealistic to expect that Albertans would be able to put up with this radical spending."

Highlights from the budget saw promises of new hospitals, schools and more money for seniors and social services but Anderson says there's a fine line in between those notes in the budget

"Sure they're going to build schools and hospitals but the reality is, this government takes in almost 45 billion dollars a year in taxes and oil revenue but they're spending $56 billion and where are they spending the extra ten billion? In areas they're not talking about, they have to become fiscally prudent."

Anderson says there's better solutions to bring the deficit down quicker.

"We put together plan before the budget came out about save 200 to 300 million dollars in various departments and various areas that we know we can do and if you continue to do that then you can bring the deficit in control but this government just keeps wanting to spend, spend and spend and I'll tell you Albertans should not have to put up with it."

At the end of the day Anderson says the 2017-18 fiscal year is going to hurt Albertans as a whole.

"Their green energy plan, their carbon tax has put a burden on the tax payers, they're taking money out of your pocket and they're abusing you with more debt. It's just not the right thing to do, they should be able to stay within their means and there's no reason why they can't they just don't want to."
