Those still on the fence with the Town's new recycling program will have another chance to question and receive information next week.

Another recycling information session will be held at the Okotoks Town Council chambers on September 6.

Okotoks Town Councillor Tanya Thorn

Councillor Tanya Thorn says the session will hopefully help answer questions resident may have about it and also give them a chance to speak out about it.

"The information sessions are an opportunity for residents to come out and get information about what is happening with the program and how the program is going to work," she says. "It's also is an opportunity for them to express their concerns that they have with the program and the direction we're moving in."

There was a information session last week at the Centennial Centre where many came and voiced both their support and displeasure for the program that is set to go into effect October 1.

Town Council passed the first reading of the program last week which will see residents pay $20.50 a month for a black garbage, blue recycling and now green organic bins.

There were numerous public delegations at last week's meeting speaking against it and Thorn says that the Town gave plenty of notice about the changes coming but at the same time says that maybe there should have been some more consultation.

"Based on the feedback we're getting we should have had some information sessions earlier so I respect that maybe we haven't communicated this out early enough. But I also at the same time struggle with that a little bit, moving to a universal recycling program we didn't just decide this in June."

Council approved their universal recycling program back in late 2014.

Thorn says despite some of the backlash given to the program, the information sessions have been able to help some residents in the right direction.

"One of it is trying to correct a lot of the misinformation that's out there on the market right now, there is a ton of misinformation of the program. So the information sessions is an opportunity to hear what exactly is going on with the program so I do encourage people that have questions or are unsure to come out and attend them."
