In the latest chapter facing the Okotoks High School situation, the public has thrown a petition into ring debating not only the location of the high school but the size it should be.

Monte Christianson has teamed up with community members to form "Parents Unite" on the matter.

He says ideally "Parents Unite" would be in favour a much bigger school be built than two smaller sized high schools.

"We want one larger school to maintain programs and maintain community," he says. "At the end of the day we want what's best for the kids, our group that's what we're focused on, we're focused on being a catalyst we're not pointing fingers at this intergovernmental body or that governmental body."

Christianson says with a growing community in Okotoks, two schools at 700-800 student capacities just doesn't seem right and "Parents Unite" want a school that isn't full the first day it's open.

"We want schools that communities can build around so we want to insure that we have enough land from the town to build a school that's going to make sense for our community," he says. "We feel that number is some where between 1400 to 1500 kids."

Christianson says the two school system will be full and over capacity before it even can finish a year of educating local students.

"By the time that school is built its already at capacity," he says. "That's what we've seen at Westmount School and we also were kind of frustrated in that process because then our kids are already at capacity we've never had a school that's been big enough to handle that, you need growth after that."

Christianson and members of "Parents Unite" are petitioning the decision of the two proposed schools, one near Aldersyde and the other near 32nd Street in Town.

Council has taken their letter submitted to them at Tuesday's council meeting as information and will discuss it at a later meeting date.
