A new telephone scam has been reported in High River.

Resident Dianne Douglas was targeted and is warning others not to fall victim to callers claiming to be RCMP members fundraising for an anti-bullying campaign.

"The first thing I did was phone the local RCMP station and asked if this was indeed true fundraising or if it was a scam, and they said it was definitely a scam and that if the police ever did some fundraising, it would be through the media," she says. "You would know it was them, and there would definitely be contact numbers."

She says she's thankful she didn't give out her personal information to the scammers, but wants to warn others who might not be so lucky.

"I'd really like for people to be careful and I really worry about seniors, especially because most of us have children or grandchildren and of course you want to see (bullying) stopped, but you have to be careful."
