The Jubilations mural on the side of the Highwood Printing building in High River will be repaired.

Town council originally decided to cut off payment to the artist and leave it the way it is, despite it falling apart almost immediately after it was unveiled on June 18, 2016.

Joel Windsor, the Chair of the Arts and Culture Advisory Board is glad council will let the artist fix the problems.

"If he's had the track record he's had elsewhere in the province and he happens to have this one little malfunction, then he should be given the opportunity to set it right and I'm very glad that we can," Windsor says.

Windsor says, the advisory board was hoping council would take the leftover funds to make the Jubilations project, which he says, was a success all through the consultation process and make the artwork a success as well.

He says, the mural had support from the start.

"The Town selected the mural, the owners (of the building) definitely likes the mural, enough so that she's said to us "I want this mural, not just some mural, but this mural, I want this one on my building so when that happens you kind of have to listen I think, so I'm glad council came to that decision."

Council voted to allow the artist to fix the work and the remaining $27,612 leftover from the grant from the Calgary Foundation will be paid to him and to provide for a conservator to oversee the work, along with any legal fees.
