The words Back-to-School can be as dreaded to parents as it is to kids at least when it comes to dolling out money for clothes and supplies.

Leah Brownridge with the Better Business Bureau says take stock before you shop.

"Take a look at what you already have from last year and previous years and see if you can reuse some of those items. For example, is your child's lunch kit still able to be used or maybe a back-pack or maybe some sporting equipment."

She says that by taking a look at what you already have you may find what you bought new last year may be good for at last a little longer this year.

She says having a detailed budget and shopping list will help to stay on track and avoid multiple trips to multiple stores and spending more than you planned to.

Brownridge says if you're interested in doing your shopping online  there's ways to make sure you're doing it safely.

"Looking for things like the HTTP at the very beginning or the URL and making sure they do have the proper encryption and security measures in place on those payment pages."

She says to only use official retailer website's and to not be tempted by significant deals and attractive offers on third party website's that you're not familiar with.

She says that may increase your risk for cyber security concerns if you're clicking on links that are redirecting you to unofficial shopping sites.

Brownridge says something as simple as making a list can make a big difference.

"Making sure you're sticking to only those items on the list, and not being caught off guard by buying things that maybe are not on the list but think you might need, those things can cause a little bit of buyers remorse."
