Recent changes to Canada's gun laws aren't going to be as effective as the Liberals would have us believe.

That from Foothills M.P. John Barlow, who says the Feds are basically shifting the job of tracking guns to sellers.

"Now business owners are going to have to keep track of these firearms and the sales. One of the main problems with the previous gun registry was the bureaucracy and the cost, you know it ballooned way out of control into the billions of dollars. Well, now the Liberal government is saying we're going to put that burden and that onus onto the business owner and they're going to have to deal with it."

Barlow says the legislation misses the point that criminals don't register their guns, and instead punishes those selling guns with the responsibility of storing the records, and law abiding citizens looking to obtain guns legally.

He says the Liberals need to be tougher on those convicted of gun crimes.
