RCMP want drivers to keep things safe while traveling on highways, and through the towns that are hosting Canada day celebrations, this long weekend.

Constable Jill Mills says long weekends always mean there is heavy traffic on highways in the area.

"We urge people to stick to the speed limits, drive the speed that is safe," said Mills. "Watch out for camper units that maybe can't go the speed limits. Be careful out there use their common sense to keep everyone safe out there, because we don't want to see anyone get hurt this long weekend."

It's not just on the highway where people need to be careful in their communities as well; with lots of events being hosted for Canada Day there will be lots of people walking around.

"Be aware that there is more people out there, that they might be not be crossing where they are suppose to be on the roads, trying to get to the celebration,"

Also, please remember school is out for summer holidays and kids are out and about enjoying the warm weather.

Mills adds enjoy the wants you to enjoy your Canada Day celebrations, but responsibly and with good behavior.
