The Town of Black Diamond could be getting a little greener, after joining the Southern Alberta Energy from Waste Association.

Mayor Sharlene Brown says it's a unique program that they're happy to get on board with.

"What it'd be doing is taking items that would traditionally be going to the landfill, incinerating them and taking energy from that," she says.

Brown says Black Diamond Council is actively looking into joining SAEWA's initiatives.

"There is a board that's been set-up," she says. "I'm very much looking forward to the next pieces of the organization to be able to establish a pilot, which would be producing energy from waste within Southern Alberta."

Brown says joining SAEWA is a good step forward in becoming a greener community.

"I think this is a great step for us to be involved in this and say 'what can we do to reduce our carbon footprint,'" she says. "If we can be a part of this organization, and it's cost effective to be part of this organization, and it reduces emmissions, it would be a great starting point."
