It's been a tradition in Black Diamond for 46 years, but the Diamond Valley Parade could see some big changes next year.

Mayor Sharlene Brown says the idea to change the parade route came up at the last Council meeting, but there's some issues with the current proposed route.

"The new route that was proposed to Council shows that some of the businesses would be missed," she says. "So the parade wouldn't access our current historic Main Street, and it may miss the strip mall that's on the west side of town."

Brown says parking is another big issue they'll have to look at when considering a new parade route.

Brown says Council is getting an early jump on planning the 2016 parade, to allow plenty of time to make the necessary changes.

"If we don't start having the discussions now on what the route needs to look like, what we need to do to make a more viable parade, then we're going to have problems getting the participation that we have traditionally had so much success with," she says.

Brown says the Town is looking for suggestions from residents via social media before addressing the issue further.

"We're going to be taking it at our Committee of the Whole meeting in the fall, in September," she says. "We'll be able to find what is the best possible route, and arrangements for parking and other alternatives to make this event a great event, and continue to make it a great event for our community and for our visitors."
