Canadian Blood Services is looking for people to step up and donate.

Territory Manager, Lisa Castro says the need for blood and blood products never eases.

"Every minute of every day someone in Canada does need blood and often more than one generous donor," she says. :"For example it can take up to eight donors a week to help someone with leukemia, or our cancer treatment patients, they can use up to five units, which means up to five donors to help them going through their regular treatments, so it's not just accidents, it's the treatments going on in the hospitals every day."

She says they have 150 spots available for the September 16 clinic at the High River Baptist Church but it's only about 60 per cent pre-booked.

"Booking an appointment is fairly simple, you can go online at blood.ca or you can download our Give Blood app," Castro says. "There's a lot of information on our www.blood.ca web site and for first time donors we do recommend you take a look and take the eligibility questionaire that's right online."

She says High River has always been a great community and while realizing it's a busy time for school and other activities starting up again, she hopes volunteers from the community will be able to step up to the plate for them.
